Award Winning Designs from the “MODERN AMERICAN BLACKSMITHS”
Hubbardton Forge was founded in a small Vermont barn in 1974, when two young men revived the nearly forgotten craft of hand-forging raw steel. Today, Hubbardton Forge is one of the most respected brands in the lighting industry for trend-setting designs, uncompromising quality, unsurpassed customer service, and a genuine commitment to the environment. Their fine lighting is proudly handcrafted in Vermont, at one of the largest contemporary commercial forges in the U.S.A. Hubbardton Forge is proudly known as “The Modern American Blacksmiths.”
Legend has it that the first job the young blacksmiths undertook after establishing their business was repairing the steel plow for the town of Castleton, VT. As business grew, the pair worked the craft show circuit and then went on to sell their designs to retail shops and lighting showrooms. By 1990, Hubbardton Forge’s distinctive designs were found in stores throughout New England.
Innovative Design
The designers at Hubbardton Forge come from diverse backgrounds in architecture and design. These designers possess a wealth of knowledge and deep respect for all art forms. They work individually and as a team, brainstorming, sketching, meeting and critiquing, driving themselves and each other to create lighting that celebrate form, materials and artistry which only can be achieved through handcrafted design.
Whether classic, transitional, or contemporary, the hallmark of Hubbardton Forge lighting is designs that are graceful and unembellished. The materials and forms speak for themselves, creating inspired designs that beautifully meld the artistry and functionality of lighting.
Handcrafted With Pride
Hubbardton Forge proudly handcrafts each of their products, one at a time, in their Castleton, Vermont facility. Beginning with a concept, the design comes to life as it travels through the prototype phase, where it is carefully engineered to exacting specifications. The lamp form is then bent and shaped in the flames of the forge by the Hubbardton Forge team of Vermont craft forgers.
After forging, the welders weld each piece meticulously, and the designer’s sculptural intent begins to emerge from the bars of steel. More hands take the piece through an innovative bioremediation wash process. Then, each piece is finished with a low VOC powder coating paint process. In assembly, products are carefully hand-built and packed for its final destination to your door.
